Hanfmann, who came into the main field via qualification, was initially 0:3 behind, but then turned up the heat. In the second set, it quickly went up against a Taylor Fritz, who was also quite beside himself.

For Hanfmann it is the greatest career success, the second victory over a top 10 man after the success against Gael Monfils 2020 in Hamburg.

Hanfmann enthuses: "Incredible atmosphere"

"I still have to realize that. An incredible atmosphere," said Hanfmann after his victory at Sky. "I think I played very well. At first I was a bit nervous. He didn't move that well. The course wasn't so good, he couldn't really play through his straight game. I also got him a bit with stops brought out."

In the third round, Hanfmann meets local hero Marco Cecchinato, who delivered a brilliant performance against Roberto Bautista Agut at midday with a score of 6:2, 6:2.

Hanfmann knows cecchinato well

"I played him earlier and I've rarely seen him so well," said Hanfmann. There are no secrets, we have often played against each other."

At the ATP main draw level it is 1-0 for Hanfmann, he won in Cagliari in 2021; of the other duels, Hanfmann won two out of three. All previous games took place on sand.

Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Holger Rune had previously won their matches on Sunday. Currently on the pitch: Novak Djokovic, who meets Grigor Dimitrov ( here in the live ticker).
