Much was expected of this final - and the two players were able to keep almost everything. Both Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev presented themselves in an excellent mood to play in the final of the ATP 500 event in Rotterdam, the Italian put it on offensively as usual, while Medvedev largely relied on his counter-attacking qualities. And these are known to be above average.

In the first section, however, it was Jannik Sinner who should have the better end for himself. The youngster equalized a break by the Russian, only to put in an excellent return game at a score of 6:5 and to dry out the first round with a break after a rally worth seeing.

As a result, Sinner, who was able to win his first title of the season in Montpellier last week, was able to see the hardships of the past few days: the long rallies in which Medvedev was able to involve his opponent again and again went increasingly to the Russians, who slowly, but certainly got the upper hand. The logical consequence: Medvedev managed to equalize the set with a 6:2.

The former world number one was now the better player on the field, had eliminated the mistakes almost completely and repeatedly benefited from mistakes made by Sinners without need. So there were two more breaks that should ultimately ensure the decision in Medvedev's favor: With 5: 7, 6: 2 and 6: 2, the eleventh in the world rankings was crowned champion at the ATP 500 event in the Netherlands for the first time.
