In the final, the 25-year-old beat second in the world rankings Daniil Medvedev 6: 4, 6: 1 and thus won his first tournament at ATP level.
Crazy: van Rijthoven hadn't celebrated a single win at ATP Tour level up until this week!
In the last few days, however, he played himself into a frenzy: in addition to Matthew Ebden and Hugo Gaston, van Rijthoven also eliminated the three top seeded participants in 's-Hertogenbosch from the tournament, namely Taylor Fritz, Felix Auger-Aliassime and now Medvedev. The victory over "Meddy" was the clearest in the whole tournament for van Rijthoven.
Who is Tim van Rijthoven?
The Dutchman was a good, if not outstanding junior player, the Wimbledon quarter-finals in 2014 was the highest of feelings for him, as well as 13th place in the junior ranking.
For the "adults", van Rijthoven was mainly on the ITF and Challenger tour, for years he was in the world rankings between 300 and 500. Last year he made it into the top 300 for the first time. A tournament victory at Challenger level he didn't succeed. And now this hammer in 's-Hertogenbosch!
"You are in an ATP final for the first time and destroy the number 2 in the world!" Medvedev also paid homage to his conqueror.
For van Rijthoven, the tournament victory also has a major impact on the ATP ranking, he made up around 100 places and is now 106th in the live ranking.
In 's-Hertogenbosch, van Rijthoven was only in the main draw thanks to a wildcard - he justified the organizers' trust in him.
