Stefanos Tsitsipas and a tournament victory in an ATP Tour 500 event - that didn't work in Astana either.

After his bravely fought semi-final victory against Andrey Rublev, Stefanos Tsitsipas was asked on the court in Astana how much he was upset that he had not yet won a tournament in the ATP 500 series. He dreams of it, Tsitsipas replied, it was not entirely clear how much bitter irony and how much truth there was. As is well known, nothing happened on Sunday either, unsurprisingly Novak Djokovic won in the tenth duel with the Greek for the eighth time.
But at least that's how it can be said: Stefanos Tsitsipas has now cleared all nine! That's how often he was in a 500 final. And the title yield remains at zero.
The malaise began in Barcelona in 2018, but at least you can use the excuse that on the other side of the net with Rafael Nadal senior clay court tennis had personally come to work. More in the text: 2019 in Dubai Roger Federer was too strong (after all, Tsitsipas was the very first to congratulate the maestro on his 100th title), later in the year in Beijing Dominic Thiem. The first third was full of it.
Tsitsipas also loses second Dubai final
Dubai again in 2020, this time defeating Novak Djokovic. In early autumn in Hamburg, Stefanos Tsitsipas then had the long-awaited tournament victory against Andrey Rublev - it won't work again.
Alexander Zverev is the spoilsport in the final of Acapulco 2021, in Barcelona Tsitsipas torments Rafael Nadal to the end. But not successfully. And then there was Rotterdam at the beginning of this season: the final opponent there was Félix Auger-Aliassime, a man who had not yet won a tournament. Exactly then, however. And now the bankruptcy against Novak Djokovic.
What does this series mean? Better put your money on someone else at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna, where Stefanos Tsitsipas will serve from October 24th. Finally, there is a 500 in the town hall.
