ATP Tel Aviv: Dominic Thiem shoots the opening game against Laslo Djere
Dominic Thiem reached the second round of the ATP 250 tournament in Tel Aviv. The Austrian beat Laslo Djere 5: 7, 7: 6 (3) and 6: 4 after a hard fight on Monday.

Sense of achievement for Dominic Thiem : The 2020 US Open winner won in the first round of the ATP 250 tournament in Tel Aviv against Laslo Djere 5: 7, 7: 6 (3) and 6: 4 and is in the Israeli metropolis thus in round two. Thanks to the hard-fought three-set win, the Austrian also made it 1-1 in head-to-head.
In Tel Aviv, the game was much closer than three years ago in Rio de Janeiro, where Thiem Djere was clearly defeated 3: 6 and 3: 6. After a break in each of the first ten games of the match, the Serb struck at the right moment at the indoor tournament in Israel and took the serve from his opponent to make it 6: 5. Then Djere served safely.
Thiem more stable in the tiebreak
In the second round, Thiem supposedly took a comfortable 4-1 lead, but Djere fought back and forced a tie-break. In this was the world number 173. from Lichtenwörth but the more stable player - a 7:3 in the short decision was the result. So the decision had to be made in the third section.
Thiem got off to a good start and took the serve from Djere to make it 2-1 after a marathon game. The 29-year-old couldn't take this break: After two hours and 41 minutes of play, Thiem converted his second match point to a 5: 7, 7: 6 (3) and 6: 4 success. In round two he meets Marin Cilic.
