Santiago takes the place of the Sand Event of Sao Paolo (Brazil), which took place from 2012 to 2019. Chile returns to the ATP calendar after six years. Most recently, a competition took place in 2014 in Vina Del Mar. Santiago was already the scene of an ATP tournament from 1993 to 2000, as well as in 2010 and 2011.

The organizers are SACS, which already held three Challengers in Chile. The license is owned by the well-known management company Octagon.

"The ATP confirmed that we are allowed to hold the tournament, which makes us very happy," said Catalina Fillol, the tournament director of the Santiago event. "Chile deserve this tournament and we've been working hard to bring this event back to the country, trusting our sponsors and confident we'll be able to create a first-class event."

"Chile has great players, great fans and a long history of tournaments these days, so we're optimistic about the challenges."

Santiago de Chile will be the sixth stop of the Latin America Tour in 2020 :

city country category
Cordoba Argentina 250
Buenos Aires Argentina 250
Rio de Janeiro Brazil 500
Acapulco mexico 500
Santiago de Chile Chile 250
Los Cabos mexico 250

All events - with the exception of the hard court tournaments of Los Cabos and Acapulco - take place on sand.
