ATP world rankings: Medvedev new number one, Nadal is stalking

Daniil Medvedev has now officially taken over the top of the AT world rankings. Acapulco winner Rafael Nadal , meanwhile, is closing in on the top three again.

So now it's official: Daniil Medvedev is the first leader in the ATP world rankings since 2004 who is not recruited from the quartet of Roger Federer , Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray . The Russian was beaten by Acapulco Rafael Nadal in the semifinals, but after Djokovic failed in Dubai in the quarterfinals to Jiri Vesely, Medvedev passed the Serb. The gap between the two leaders is 150 points.

Rafael Nadal has moved closer to the top. The Spaniard not only celebrated his 91st career title in Acapulco, no, he also overtook Stefanos Tsitsipas in the world rankings and is now fourth. Nadal, who won all 15 matches in 2022, leads the annual ranking anyway: The Spaniard has already collected 2,750 points with the triumphs in Melbourne, at the Australian Open and now in Acapulco.

Alexander Zverev is still in third place, Dominic Thiem is in 51st place. One place behind Pedro Martinez, who gained 22 places with his first career title in Santiago. Andrey Rublev, the third tournament winner of the weekend, overtook Matteo Berrettini and is now sixth.

From a German perspective, Oscar Otte with 77th place and Daniel Altmaier with 81st place achieved new personal bests.
