Had Bianca Andreescu lost another set in the first-round smash with Garbine Muguruza in Adelaide, the news would have been far less rosy. But the Canadian started her fabulous comeback against her Spanish opponent and finally won in three sets. And that's how quickly a messed up, an extremely successful start to the season.
The crisis-ridden US Open winner can undoubtedly use this. Especially since Andreescu has big goals in mind for 2023. "Another Grand Slam title would be nice, another WTA 1000 title, staying healthy, being able to play through the whole year"; said the Canadian when asked about her goals for the year. "Because I don't think I've had a full year playing all the tournaments I wanted," Andreescu said. "That should be the top priority now - and then get back in the top 10 because I think I'm up to the level."

At least the performances in training give her this feeling, emphasized the Canadian. "I always say in training that I feel incredible and then the matches come and it's sometimes a little different. Hopefully the start of the season can really show me if I'm up there. But mentally I know that I am." said Andreescu, who sensationally triumphed at the US Open in 2019 and subsequently advanced to fourth place in the WTA world rankings.
Today, Andreescu finds encouragement and inspiration in direct competition: such as world number one Iga Swiatek: "The competition definitely inspires me and motivates me even more. When I see Iga, she is younger than me and has won three Grand Slams. I try to get up there, I'm trying to surpass that," emphasized the Canadian, who is currently ranked 46th in the world. If the 22-year-old has her way, that should change as soon as possible.
