Borna Coric, who had undergone shoulder surgery in late summer 2021, actually wanted to make his comeback on the biggest tennis stage at the Davis Cup Finals in November this year. As is well known, nothing came of this, the training deficit in the former world number twelfth was too great, as he explained a few days before the event.
Well, it seems, the course is set for a return with the Croatian. The 25-year-old wants to make his comeback in the tournament series Down Under, and the Australian Open in particular is undoubtedly Coric's big goal. Together with Denis Shapovalov - who tested positive for COVID-19 in Australia - Coric is the first active person to have landed in Australia.
Almost a year break for Coric
For Borna Coric, the appearances in Australia are the first appearance at an event on the ATP tour since March 2021. After his clear semi-final defeat at the ATP 500 event in Rotterdam against Marton Fucsovics, the 25-year-old has not played a match - and in the Shoulder surgery prior to the Australian Open.
The Croatian has lost a lot of ground in the world rankings - Coric is currently only in 73rd place. In his career so far, the 25-year-old has won two titles on the ATP tour and in 2018 moved up to twelfth place in the world rankings.
