Earned in the top 10: Cameron Norrie

It's been four and a half years since Andy Murray dropped out of the top 10. Strictly speaking, that was in November 2017. This English dry spell ended on Monday. The 26-year-old left-hander is now in 10th place between Felix Auger-Aliassime (9) and the newly crowned Miami champion Carlos Alcaraz (11), who is only 29 points short of 10th place.

Norrie is currently managing to confirm an impressive 2021 season in which he rose from 74th place (January) to 12th place (November). Prior to 2021, Norrie had contested only one tour-level final. By the end of last year he was able to record four finals plus two titles – including the Indian Wells Masters. He had won that in the final against Nikoloz Basilashvili.

Currently in 12th place in the race

The success story from 2022 reads well - even though the very first matches of the year were mixed. The small knot, if one can speak of it, burst quite quickly: The tournament victories in Delray Beach and Acapulco currently ensure a convincing 15:8 balance. And although Norrie failed at the Australian Open in the first round to Sebastian Korda, he is currently in 12th place in terms of the ATP race. So we can be curious whether he will make it to the ATP finals this year .
