Carlos Moya, himself once number one in the ATP ranking, currently heads the supervisory staff of 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal. So he knows exactly what it feels like to support one of the "Big 4" in achieving their goals and dreams and what drives top people like "Rafa", Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic or Andy Murray even at an older tennis age, to go up to or even beyond their limits. Our French colleagues from "Tennis Actu" were able to make inquiries about two particularly interesting topics during a short conversation with the 45-year-old Mallorquin.
"Let's enjoy while they're still active"
So, not for the first time, the question arises as to whether the "Bull from Manacor" could possibly take over the top position in the men's world rankings this year. Moya: "We hope, even if that's not our main goal. Above all, he wants to be healthy and competitive to win more Grand Slam tournaments." But why not? "He's not going to give up without a fight, even if it's not a top priority. If he wins another Grand Slam, he'll come close to number one anyway, but again - that's not our main goal."
With the Laver Cup in September there is also a huge highlight on the tennis menu. For the first time, the "Big Four" will compete together for Team Europe in the team competition. Possibly a one-time thing, as Moya believes, since the career of "King Roger" in particular is inevitably coming to an end. "We will definitely miss Federer on the tour. He's had that knee surgery so I don't know how many more times we'll see him on the pitch. But everyone together will be greatly missed so let's enjoy while they're still active. "
