This was confirmed by an MRI, as Saville announced yesterday via Twitter. "2013 Flashbacks," she wrote. At that time, the Australian had also suffered a cruciate ligament tear.
In any case, the 28-year-old was dogged by bad luck with injuries in recent years. She struggled with problems with her Achilles tendon for a long time and finally decided to have an operation. Accordingly, she ended 2021 in 419th place.
And got off to a good start this year, including a quarter-final at the Miami Open. Saville is currently back in 55th place in the WTA rankings, most recently she was in the semifinals in Washington and in the Granby final.
All the more bitter now the renewed off.
Daria Saville: "Don't worry"
Shortly after her injury, Saville tweeted that one should think of her and hope that it wasn't a cruciate ligament tear.
After the diagnosis, however, she seemed reasonably composed again. "Don't worry about me," she wrote. "I feel bad now that everyone is worried. I'm fine, I promise. It was just really bad luck."
Saville, one of the most popular players on the tour, received encouraging tweets from many of her colleagues after the action on the court.
