Yibing Wu is the first Chinese ever to be in the final of an ATP tour event

Yibing Wu became the first Chinese tennis pro to reach the final of an ATP tournament in the Open Era (since 1968). The 23-year-old prevailed in the semifinals in Dallas against the top seeded American Taylor Fritz 6: 7 (4: 7), 7: 5, 6: 4. He had already knocked out the higher rated Denis Shapovalov (Canada/No. 3) and Adrian Mannarino (France/No. 8).

By reaching the final in Texas, Wu will move up to at least 76th in the world rankings on Monday. This is a personal best for him. Should he also win the final against John Isner (USA/No. 5), he would even move up to 57th place. Fritz is in seventh place in the ranking for the first time despite being eliminated.

Service giant John Isner had to go the full distance of three sets against his compatriot JJ Wolf like Wu. In the end it was 3: 6, 7: 5, 7: 6 (4) for the former Wimbledon semi-finalist. "I fended off a lot of break points with returns that really don't work," Isner said.
