Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem and Roger Federer all had to end the 2021 season early, with David Goffin now another name is added to this prominent list. On Thursday, the Belgian announced on Instagram that he would have to end the current season due to persistent knee problems.

"I wanted to let you know that I'm ending my 2021 season. I've had knee pain for a long time and need time to really recover. I want to fully recover from all the injuries I've had lately in order to be stronger for the next year I apologize to all tournaments and fans, but we'll see you in 2022! "wrote the former world number seven on Instagram.

“I need it, my body needs it. I think these four months will be necessary to return stronger in 2022, "Goffin continued in the video. Before the knee problems, the Belgian had already struggled with an ankle injury.

Goffin is currently only 30th in the world rankings, but this year he secured his fifth career title in Montpellier. Most recently, the 30-year-old lost to Mackenzie McDonald in round one of the US Open. In total, the Belgian had 14 wins and 15 defeats this year.
