Davis Cup: Andy Murray - "A chance to honor the Queen"

Andy Murray takes on the USA with the British team in Glasgow today. The three-time major champion also sees the Davis Cup intermediate round as an opportunity to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth, who died a few days ago.

The English Premier League suspended its game after the death of Queen Elizabeth at the weekend, the games will be made up for later in the season. A cancellation of the intermediate round of the Davis Cup in Glasgow was probably not up for debate for the English Association (LTA). On the one hand, because no alternative location would have been found in such a short time. On the other hand, because the rest and mourning phase in football is already a thing of the past. On Tuesday evening, for example, Liverpool FC played again at home against Ajax Amsterdam in the Champions League.

Sir Andy Murray will open with the British team against the USA this Wednesday. Alongside Cameron Norrie, Daniel Evans, Joe Salisbury and Neil Skupski. Who knows how many missions Murray even gets there. As an Elder Statesman, he found a few words about the Queen's death in advance.

Murray played in front of the Queen

"Obviously it's been a very sad week to hear the news that the Queen has passed away," Murray told Sky Sports. "But I think we have the opportunity here to show how much she meant to each and every one of them." The British team will wear black armbands in Glasgow and there will also be a minute's silence before the match against the USA.

"I'm sure there will be songs and a minute of silence," Murray continued. "She had a great life. I think these days, with Britain playing here, give us a chance to celebrate the Queen and everything she's done."

He himself is happy that he had the chance to play in front of the Queen at Wimbledon. "It will remain a very fond memory for me," concluded Murray.
