Davis Cup: Dan Evans opens the double barrel
In singles, Daniel Evans is a bench for the British Davis Cup team. The fact that he has never been nominated for the doubles does not suit Evans at all.

As is well known, Great Britain did not make it into the big final tournament in the Davis Cup in Malaga, the favored Americans and, somewhat surprisingly, the Dutch, left the intermediate round in Glasgow as quarter-finalists in 2022. Daniel Evans went in for the Brits, scored a point for the hosts against Tallon Griekspoor, but lost his singles against Tommy Paul and thus the USA in three sets. Evans did not play against Kazakhstan.
British captain Leon Smith nominated Joe Salisbury and Andy Murray for the doubles in Glasgow. Which promptly went wrong. Great Britain lost 2-1 to both the Netherlands and the USA.
That shouldn't have been the case, if you believe Daniel Evans' statements to the "i" portal. Because Evans would have considered himself the better option in doubles.
Evans - "A Little Offensive"
"It's bloody annoying. It's disappointing. In fact, to be honest, it's a little insulting that I've never been nominated for a Davis Cup doubles," Evans ranted. "It's meant towards the doubles players in the nicest way, it's not against them, but: I don't need to play doubles on tour to show how well I can do it. When I play doubles, I'm usually successful. ”One shouldn't look at the doubles rankings, Evans continued. If a style of play fits better, that player should also be nominated.
Evans' disappointment seems to be so deep that he can imagine withdrawing from the British team. "Maybe I should sit down with him (Leon Smith) and have a chat. And if he wants to go in a different direction, that's entirely up to him. He's the captain.”
