"In view of the fact that the season has only just begun and the Australian Open is just around the corner, I have decided to nominate only four players initially in order to be able to react flexibly to developments in the coming weeks," explains Kohlmann his decision.
In addition, Kevin Krawietz, an established player in Australia, is not there because he will be a father for the first time at the end of January and his assignment in Trier is therefore uncertain. Kohlmann leaves open whether another singles or doubles player will join the team. “I will definitely take a fifth player with me. The following weeks will show who will strengthen the team in Trier,” says Kohlmann.
The German team is led by Alexander Zverev, who is back after a long injury break. “Alexander declared his willingness to support us in the Davis Cup this year as well. It shows that he, like the whole team, has big aspirations in this competition. We have proven that we can keep up with the best teams in the world in all constellations. With Alexander in the team, we'll improve our chances even more," said Kohlmann.
In addition, Kohlmann relies on the proven pillars of the German team with Otte, Struff and Pütz against Switzerland: “These players convinced last year and form the framework of our team. We can rely on their great experience and sporting class in tight situations," said the Davis Cup captain.
