After Peter Gojowczyk's clear opening defeat against Dan Evans , Jan-Lennard Struff was doomed to win the singles of the two top players against Cameron Norrie if he wanted to keep the German Davis Cup team's hope of reaching the semi-finals alive. In view of his strong season, the Indian Wells winner from Great Britain was considered the favorite, but Struff was initially not deterred.
The Warsteiner quickly took a 4-1 lead, but suddenly fell behind with a break at 5: 6. Struff knew how to free himself from this situation as well as a little later from a 4-6 deficit in the tiebreaker. The world number 51 secured himself with four points in a row. the highly contested first set with 7: 6 (6).
In the second round, Norrie managed the decisive break to make it 4: 2, which the Briton carried confidently to equalize the set. Almost a mirror image of this took place in the third act: Struff broke to 4: 2, but didn't even need his own serve, and a little later his first match point to 7: 6 (6), 3: 6 and 6: 2 success .to transform.
Thus, in the international match between Germany and Great Britain, the double must bring the decision. This is where Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz meet Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski. You can follow the double in our live ticker and on ServusTV.
