On Sunday, Kudla clinched his first title of the season after defeating Daniel Altmaier 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the finals of the Phoenix Challenger Tournament. After the final, Kudla was mentally in Ukraine and expressed his hope that the war would end soon. “You only hope for peace and not war. It's really sad. Luckily my family is doing well and we keep in touch with them but it's just so sad to see this. I send my blessings there,” said Kudla.
Kudla successful after falling behind in the set against Altmaier
After Kudla lost the first set in the Phoenix final against Daniel Altmaier, who previously beat Radu Albot, among others, he stepped up a gear. There were break chances for both sides, but in the end the 29-year-old was able to equalize to get a better start in the third set. Altmaier could not recover from a 0:3 deficit and finally lost the decisive round with 3:6.
