Eleven wins with just one defeat: This record in Buenos Aires should give Dominic Thiem a boost at the ATP Tour 250 tournament that starts on Monday.

Two titles with three participations, a success rate of 66.6 period percent, with that you can travel to Buenos Aires. Yes, actually there could hardly be a better place for Dominic Thiem than the Argentine capital to collect ATP points and gain self-confidence. Thiem has been on site since the middle of the week, Nicolas Massu will be back in the box of the Austrian number one after an intensive weekend with the Chilean Davis Cup team.

And can therefore build on a pretty strong record with his protégé. Sequentially …
- Dominic Thiem competed in Buenos Aires for the first time in 2016. After two three-set wins against Pablo Carreno Busta and Gastao Elias and a sovereign win against Dusan Lajovic, Thiem delivered his masterpiece in the semifinals. He defeated Rafael Nadal for the first time - and that in the tie-break of the third set. Because it worked so well, Thiem went through the same exercise again in the final against Nicolas Almagro.
- The way to the 2018 title, on the other hand, turned out to be almost unspectacular. Thiem did not lose a single set in any of the four matches against Horacio Zeballos, Guido Pella, Gael Monfils and in the final Aljaz Bedene.
- The following year, when Nicolas Massu made his debut as Thiem's part-time job at the time, after victories against Maximilian Marterer and Pablo Cuevas, it was the first defeat in Buenos Aires ever. But who can remember: The match against Diego Schwartzman, which the local hero won in the tie-break of the third set, was very winnable for Dominic Thiem.
A balance of 11:1 is worthy of all honor. And should Dominic Thiem convey the conviction that things are going up again in Argentina.
