Thiem will take part in the Salzburg Open from July 3rd to 10th and thus start his second part of the clay court tour. After that, appearances in Gstaad, Bastad and of course at the Generali Open in Kitzbühel are planned.

"Of course we are totally happy that Dominic is coming to us," said tournament director Günter Schwarzl. "We will prepare him the best possible - as far as it is in our possibilities, and wish him that he also wins the tournament." Schwarzl continues: "Basically he trains like a berserker on sand. We hope that he gets as far as possible and keep our fingers crossed for him - not only for us as a tournament, but of course in general to stabilize his tennis game again."

That's exactly what Thiem intends to do, he's been training for weeks to get back in shape after his wrist injury - which he didn't have in the spring.

Dominic Thiem at the Salzburg Open: "A lottery six"

On Thursday evening, Thiem declared that he had found the joy of training again and was able to hit the ball properly again. Next week he wants to train in Barcelona with Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov.

Thiem's commitment to Salzburg was primarily the responsibility of tournament management colleague Gerald Mandl, explained Schwarzl. He explained that he had tried extremely hard for Thiem and also thanks to his connection to Thiem manager Galo Blanco. "I think it is of course a perfect platform for Dominic to get a feel for the old days again. For Salzburg Tennis, the 1st STC and for us as the organizers it is of course a lottery six."

However, the opponents in Salzburg are tough: there are two top 60 players and eight players from the top 100. "Of course he has tough competition in Salzburg, such as Gasquet, Fucsovics, Lehecka, Rinderknech and so on," explained black
