When Barbora Strycova at Wimbledon achieved her biggest single success this year, it sounded like a goodbye to the end of 2019. Would she, the then 33-year-old, still play at the age of 37? "Not really, there are other things I want in life." And with 34 or 35? "I do not know, I'm finishing this year and then I'll see how I feel," she said after her defeat to Serena Williams in the semifinals. And on Sunday, after the dramatic men's final between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, they won their first Grand Slam title.

Apparently, Strycova still feels good, and she has every reason to be: Thanks to her successful week at the WTA Finals - Strycova stood with partner Su-Wei Hsieh in the final - secured the tricky Czech the number 1 in the double world at the end of the year. For the first time, Strycova reached the top spot on 15 July, after her Wimbledon triumph.

"A feeling I can not describe," Strycova said on Instagram. "And there are so many people who helped me make this dream come true," she continued, thanking partner Su-Wei Hsieh and coaches Lukas Dlouhy and David Kotyza, among others. "Hard work and passion really pay off."

Strycova does not seem to want to give up her passion for tennis, at least not at the end of the year. "I will fly to Australia," Strycova told against the Czech side idnes.cz . "I love the land and the people there, the warmth." Over time, she will make further decisions. "It also depends on how I feel physically," says Strycova, after all, she already notices her body. "I will be careful."
