Ernests Gulbis is still a big show, albeit mostly on the "small" ATP Challenger Tour. There, the now 34-year-old occasionally sets a highlight, in Zug, for example, Gulbis reached the final from qualifying (which he then lost to Dominic Stricker). The veteran is currently at position 297 on the ATP charts, which is astonishing in that Gulbis, who climbed to number ten in the world rankings under the guidance of Günter Bresnik in 2014, once stated that he stop playing tennis at the moment when he no longer sees a chance of a place in the top ten.

Who knows, maybe Ernests Gulbis will still see them. His free time, which may be scarce, will possibly be further curtailed in the future. According to the Latvian media, Gulbis has been elected the new president of the local tennis association. And that despite the fact that Gubis hadn't exactly attracted attention with his diplomatic skills over the years at his appearances in the traveling circus.
