After the incredible three weeks in Florence, Antwerp and Basel, Felix Auger-Aliassime was one of those men who could have improved a strong 2022 season with a little surprise in Paris-Bercy or Turin. One thing is certain today: the young Canadian did not succeed in this. In Paris-Bercy, after strong performances, it was only in the semi-finals that Auger-Aliassime was now, in Turin, the end of the group phase. The Canadian had to admit defeat to American Taylor Fritz in the decisive group game.

"In the third set I made bad decisions and executed some areas poorly. Maybe I lost focus a bit," said Auger-Aliassime right after the defeat. And quickly found a reason for the lack of focus. "The fact that I'm tired - sometimes you don't feel tired, but it's late, you've played a lot. I've played a long year," said the Canadian, who finished the year with 57 wins and 27 defeats on the ATP -Tour will end - so in one year he was on the pitch a whopping 84 times for ATP matches.

Auger-Aliassime also to the Davis Cup

And this sheer number of games would simply be noticeable in matches like Thursday's: "Sometimes you make bad decisions without any feeling, make a few mistakes, make double faults just because the brain isn't as sharp. That's what happens is," said Auger-Aliassime after the end of the season finale for the top eight players of the past season.

But the Canadian doesn't have time to rest. Felix Auger-Aliassime and the Canadian team will face Germany in the Davis Cup on November 24th. All in all, from November 22 to 27 in Malaga, the coveted trophy will be fought over in a team fight. For everyone involved, this means of course: The preparation for the coming season will be extremely sparse. And with that, time to relax and recharge your batteries.
