98 minutes played Ruse and Haas, who had gone into the match as the slight favorite, on court 4, then the Austrian was allowed to cheer about her entry into the 18-point grid. In round two of the qualification, Haas had beaten her compatriot Julia Grabher.
Haas is now playing against Su-Wei Hsieh from Taiwan. Should she survive this hurdle, last year's finalist Marketa Vondrousova could wait in round two.
