Krejcikova's exit does not come as a complete surprise: Due to injury, the defending champion, who was second seeded, has hardly been able to play any matches in recent weeks. After winning the first set smoothly, it looked as if Krejcikova would find the magic on the Philippe-Chatrier court that had carried her not only to the title in singles but also in doubles last year.

This means that after Ons Jabeur , the second high-seeded player has already disappeared from the women's tableau. Jabeur had already failed in three sets on Sunday against Magda Linette from Poland.

Favorite Iga Swiatek , on the other hand, did not miss a beat, beating Lesia Tsurenko 6-2 and 6-0 after just 54 minutes of play. Naomi Osaka was eliminated after beating Amanda Anisimova from the USA 5:7 and 3:6. Bianca Andreescu had some trouble with Ysaline Bonaventure. The 2019 US Open winner finally won 3: 6, 7: 5 and 6: 0.
