Iga Swiatek didn't give Rebecca Peterson a chance

While Ashleigh Barty and Naomi Osaka, the two world number leaders, are no longer in the tournament in Paris, defending champion Iga Swiatek continues to draw circles unimpressed: After the 6-0 and 7-5 opening success over Kaja Juvan, the 20-year-old also showed in Round two an impressive achievement.

It only took the Polish woman an hour to defeat Rebecca Peterson 6-1 and 6-1. Swiatek has not lost a set at the French Open since last year and is the top favorite for the title in the French capital given her previous performances. In round three she meets Anett Kontaveit, who also left Kristina Mladenovic only two games.

In addition to Swiatek, Cori Gauff was another youngster who made it into the third round: The 17-year-old defeated Qiang Wang 6: 3 and 7: 6 (1). Gauff will face Australian Open finalist Jennifer Brady on Saturday.

In addition, Gauff's compatriot Sloane Stephens managed a little surprise on the Philippe-Chatrier court: The 28-year-old beat Karolina Pliskova 7: 5 and 6: 1 and is now playing against Karolina Muchova. Also in round three are Elise Mertens (4: 6, 6: 2 and 6: 4 vs. Zarina Diyas) and Maria Sakkari (6: 2 and 6: 3 vs. Jasmine Paolini).
