The ATP 250 event in Munich had to offer a rarely human scene of the two main protagonists of the final afterwards. After the defeated Botic van de Zandschulp declared via Twitter that the defeat would hurt a lot, opponent Holger Rune replied and emphasized that the Dutchman would have many more chances to win matches like this.
Another Twitter correspondence that emerged after the final was less gratifying. Some fans weren't happy with the behavior of the Dane, who was clearly struggling with physical problems in the final. But not everyone wanted to acknowledge that. "Rune is such an actor on the pitch that plays in the Munich final with an alleged injury. He was played like the baby he is and faked an injury to distract the opponent," is about a particularly ugly one to read tweets. "He's such a kid who had no problem running to the net at full speed."
Rune fights back
As a result, Holger Rune himself was not above responding to these allegations personally. Key: snotty. "What planet are you from? Taking a medical time-out is totally okay. I could hardly lift my arm and my body was completely drained after ten matches," said the 19-year-old. For him it was only a decision whether he should give up or take a medical time-out.
But his own will to win drove him to fight to the end despite the signs of wear and tear. "I've played more than 10 games in the last 2 weeks. My body is ready at the moment but I still wanted to fight to the end. It's a final. I'm not giving up," Rune wrote on Twitter. Where the youngster was once again very satisfied with the triumph: "It was two tough weeks with a lot of fights. I don't have much body left today, but #keepfightingtilltheend."
