Iga Swiatek misses dress rehearsal for Australian Open

First the cancellation of Carlos Alcaraz, now at least question marks behind Iga Swiatek : The first Grand Slam tournament of the tennis year could take place without the two world number ones. The 21-year-old Swiatek from Poland canceled her participation in the upcoming WTA event in Adelaide due to problems with her right shoulder, it is the dress rehearsal for the Australian Open, which begins on January 16th.
On Friday Swiatek, reigning winner of the French Open and the US Open, conceded a 2: 6 and 2: 6 against the American Jessica Pegula at the United Cup for Poland and shed bitter tears at the end.
Pegula also canceled her participation in Adelaide after the United States reached the final of the United Cup. Nevertheless, the field of participants in the coastal town is impressive: With Ons Jabeur, Caroline Garcia, Daria Kasatkina and Veronika Kudermetova, four top ten players are at the start.
