Hard to believe, but true: although Mikaela Shiffrin and Iga Swiatek assure each other more and more of their mutual admiration, the two have never met in person. At least the social media will have to do the job, like on Wednesday, when the world number one from Poland and the US ski superstar exchanged views on Instagram.
It's not like Shiffrin has never been at one of the big tennis tournaments personally. In 2018, for example, she stopped at Roland Garros, cheered on Rafael Nadal in the final, who won the title against Dominic Thiem at the time. That year, however, Iga Swiatek was only a great tennis hope. Today she operates as a three-time major winner.
And the Polish woman also showed herself to be a great humorist: after Shiffrin remarked that it was her dream to visit during the Wimbledon tournament, Swiatek suggested that this visit should be made in week one. Because she might not be there in the second.
