Among other things, Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin was given a wildcard for Indian Wells

We reported some time ago that Dominic Thiem, who won the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells 2019 in the final against Roger Federer, was given a free ticket for the main competition. On Saturday, the remaining wildcard awards for the highly endowed combined event in the Californian desert were announced.

First of all, the 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin should be mentioned in the WTA Tour 1000 main draw. After seasons plagued by injuries and illness, the 24-year-old US-American with Russian roots is only number 149 in the women's charts. Furthermore, the Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska can look forward to easy access to the main draw of the BNP Paribas Open. Also on hand are Ann Li and young local heroes Emma Navarro, Caty McNally, Katie Volynets, Peyton Stearns and 21-year-old Elizabeth Mandlik.

Chinese Yibing Wu also fixed in the peloton

Of course, the men's competition also relies on local athletes: Jack Sock, who was eighth in the world rankings, received wild card honors, as did Brandon Holt and 24-year-old Alex Kovacevic. Also interesting is the free ticket for the Chinese Yibing Wu, who was the first Chinese to win an ATP tour event in mid-February - the 23-year-old defeated the local hero and service specialist John Isner at the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in Dalls in an incredibly tight game with 6: 7 (4), 7: 6 (3), 7: 6 (12).
