Indian Wells win keeps Taylor Fritz in top 10 for just a few hours

Taylor Fritz scored his biggest win on the tour to date in Indian Wells. And as he explained afterwards, he had come a good deal closer to his big goal for the next few months - the goal of making the top 10 for the first time.
If Fritz isn't sleeping the sleep of the just, you could make him believe that he has already achieved his goal: Because the current ATP world ranking list already lists Fritz in 8th place.

ATP mistakenly credits Indian Wells players with double points
But a closer look shows: wrongly. Because Fritz was inadvertently awarded 2,000 points for his win instead of the usual 1,000 for Masters tournaments.
And a closer look reveals that all Indian Wells participants have been given twice the number of points.
Or... has the unofficial "fifth Grand Slam" been promoted to a real one - and nobody noticed? No, as the ATP has now confirmed. It's a system error.
Fritz could freeze the "ranking list" at least to be on the safe side. In case he shouldn't crack the top 10 after all. Or as a motivational boost for how beautiful a single number in the ranking looks.

Taylor Fritz: Actually number 13
Oh yes: "Unofficially", but rightly Fritz climbed to 13th place with his Indian Wells victory - also a career high for the 24-year-old. For the "real" top 10 he still needs roughly 600 points.
A final or even a win at the upcoming Miami Open could help him to actually achieve his big goal in the near future.
