Not only for the women was there a new world number one with Iga Swiatek , also for the men an unknown face in this position greeted from the top on Monday: Brit Joe Salisbury climbed to first place in the ATP double ranking and replaced the Croatian Mate Pavic away.

Since 2019, Salisbury has won two Grand Slam titles (Australian Open 2020, US Open 2021) and an ATP Masters 1000 trophy (Toronto 2021) alongside his US partner Rajeev Ram. The two recently stayed in Miami further major titles only narrowly denied due to the 6:7 (7) and 3:6 defeat in the final against John Isner and Hubert Hurkacz. Nevertheless, on Monday Salisbury advanced to become the third British world number one in the men's tournament after Andy Murray in singles and Jamie Murray in doubles.

"It's always been a goal. I think we focused more on winning tournaments as a team, winning Masters 1000, winning Grand Slams. But of course it's amazing for us that we seeded as number one in the Tournaments will go. Being number one in the rankings is incredible. It's a special moment," Salisbury said on the ATP homepage .

Ram gave Rosen for his partner's achievements: "I feel like this place speaks to Joe's perseverance, work ethic and spirit of always improving. He really deserves it. It's fantastic to have the place with him since 2019 to share and I look forward to more great experiences in the future."
