Now it's official: After the success at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai via John Isner and Sam Querrey, the two Colombians Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah will end the year as number one in the double world rankings. After Hans Gildemeister (Chile) and Andres Gomez (Ecuador) in 1986, Cabal / Farah will only be the second purely South American pairing to achieve this success.
Cabal and Farah won their first two Grand Slam tournaments in Wimbledon and New York this season. The Colombians also triumphed at the events in Barcelona, Rome and Eastbourne. Unsurprisingly, Cabal / Farah also qualified as the first team for the ATP Finals in London.
"It has been an amazing and crazy run this year," said Juan Sebastian Cabal. "It is incredible. We are so happy and very proud of what we have achieved. We have kept things simple and kept hungry to achieve this amazing performance," said the 33-year-old.
His partner, who was a year younger, was also pleased with this success: "I have dreamed of it forever and making it a reality now is pretty cool." At the moment, Cabal / Farah have more than twice as many points in the world rankings as the first chasers Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo.
