Novak Djokovic is back. And how. The Serb put on an impressive performance in his first Laver Cup appearance against Frances Tiafoe - despite Djokovic not having played an official match since the Wimbledon final. Most recently, the Serb had to sit out for the entire North American hard court season due to a lack of a COVID-19 vaccination.
However, the 21-time major champion did not seem to have lost any form in these months, the 35-year-old dominated the events at will against the newly crowned US Open semi-finalist. The best example: It took until the second game in the second round before Frances Tiafoe was able to score a point on Djokovic's serve for the first time.
Djokovic untouchable
However, the American was already 1: 6 and 0: 1 (with a break) behind - but braced himself against the impending defeat against Djokovic with the usual big fighter heart. The youngster should not look out for more than result cosmetics, Djokovic acted almost untouchable on his own serve and transported the early break safely to a 6: 1 and 6: 3 success.
Overall, Team Europe is now back in the lead at the Laver Cup 2022 with 6:4 against Team World. After day one it was 2:2, at the start of Saturday Matteo Berrettini initially had the upper hand against Felix Auger-Aliassime, Taylor Fritz equalized against Cameron Norrie a little later after a big fight to make it 4:4 for Team World.
