Federer himself hit a few balls and greeted the players. And put on an epic interview marathon. In an interview with Eurosport, the now 42-year-old also commented on the current situation in world tennis - regardless of the Laver Cup. And Roger Federer sees it very positively.

Federer - “Novak is rewriting history”

“Tennis is doing very well at the moment,” explained Federer. “If you see what Coco Gauff achieved at the US Open - that was very special and unique. She is incredible.” What the Swiss of course also knows first hand: After all, Gauff is marketed in the same agency as himself.

“On the men’s side we are also experiencing a great moment. Novak is rewriting history, Alcaraz wins at Wimbledon, Medvedev played fantastically in New York.” Federer was particularly impressed by the next generation - alongside Alcaraz. “Young people are coming in that I have never competed against at all. Rune, Sinner and Alcaraz. Unfortunately, I was never able to play against them.” And, just by the way, I wasn’t able to watch them up close at the Laver Cup in Vancouver.

The bottom line for Roger Federer: “The future seems to be bright. The game will always evolve. And the good thing is: I really enjoy watching and following a lot of the results.”
