The 19-year-old fractured her right foot at the French Open and then failed for Wimbledon.
She wants to celebrate her comeback at the WTA tournament in Washington. "This injury won't keep me off the tennis court for too long," she said on Twitter these days.
She doesn't seem to have been kept away from the tennis court anyway. On her Instagram scandal, the Canadian had repeatedly posted videos of the rehabilitation progress, small tricks and a few standing volleyball units so as not to lose the feeling for the ball.
Leylah Fernandez: One time against Serena!
Should Fernandez' foot hold, she would of course also start at the home game in Toronto afterwards - as would Serena Williams, against whom she would love to play. "I just want to be able to tell everyone that I once played a match against Serena Williams. She's a legend," she explained a few weeks ago .
It would not be unlikely: while Fernandez was world number 14. will probably be set, Williams currently has to go unseeded, so she could appear anywhere at the start.
Williams is currently not listed in the WTA ranking due to a lack of tournament participation.
