The former Wimbledon finalist (2013) is currently only ranked 563 in the world - but Lisicki is patient. After injuries and most recently the illness of Pfeiffer's glandular fever, Lisicki still needs time to be ready for a new start in touring life.
"Of course you have one or two tournaments in your head that you would like to play at. But for me it is really a top priority to come back fit. I prefer to wait a week or two weeks longer than to start a week early," she said in conversation with the dpa . In any case, the conviction to be able to reach a very high level again as soon as she was fit was there.
Lisicki: "I got through everything well"
The worst thing at the end of the year was that she didn't know what was going on. "If you know what you're dealing with, it's okay. I got through everything well, my body was strong."
The 30-year-old is clear that a comeback will not be a snap, especially if you look at it from far behind in the ranking. “With this ranking position, it is extremely difficult to work your way up again because you start from scratch. You play small tournaments, some without a referee, line judge, ball children. So you can be happy when a chair umpire is on the court. "
Lisicki is currently working on fitness with father Richard in Florida to come back in 2020. However, it is not yet certain when exactly. It seems clear that entering the Australian Open is not yet an option. "Australia is definitely too early, I still need time to set it up." Motivation problems, however, are alien to the mostly optimistic Lisicki. "I always say: get up once more than you fell."
