On a good day, Lorenzo Sonego's game is a feast for the eyes. The well-groomed one-handed backhand, the smooth footwork, the many variations that the still only 20-year-old Hamburg champion of last year can unpack. But as is so often the case in sport, what looks easy on the outside is usually the result of hard work. Which also includes the mental side.
And so it's not surprising what Musetti told ESPN a few days ago. "Tennis is a sport that demands a lot," the Italian is quoted there as saying. “There is a lot of pressure. It's not easy to stand alone on the court and deal with all the problems. Sometimes the pressure was too much for me. But I'm working hard with a specialist that this doesn't happen again."
Musetti could meet Thiem
Lorenzo Musetti has only played six games this year: In the United Cup he had to retire due to injury after four victories against very easy opponents in the final against Frances Tiafoe. At the Australian Open, he lost to Lloyd Harris in the tie-break of the fifth set.
Musetti is seeded in third place in Buenos Aires this week. If he wins his first match against local hero Pedro Cachin, he could meet Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals. If the Austrian, himself a filigree, remains victorious against the Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas.
