"We are happy to be able to give a few fans the opportunity to watch the best tennis players in the world play for one of the most coveted trophies in tennis," announced the organizers of the Miami Open on Tuesday evening. Accordingly, at the ATP Masters 1000 event, a few fans will be allowed to attend the tournament live on site. As is well known, the event fell victim to the corona virus in the preseason.
Exactly how many spectators will be admitted to the Hard Rock Arena is not known. According to the organizers, there will be a "limited number" in any case, which indicates that the tiers are not very well filled. These fans will be confronted with tough security precautions, as the official accounts of the tournament communicated that they continue to commit themselves to creating a safe and pleasant environment for all guests.
Federer is the defending champion - does he also play?
The Miami Open will take place from April 22nd to May 4th. Roger Federer will probably enter the race as defending champion, provided, of course, that the Swiss competes in the ATP Masters 1000 event. The 20-time Grand Slam champion plans to return to the tour in Doha in a few weeks, after having been injured since the Australian Open 2020. In 2019, Federer won the final against local hero John Isner.
