The art on Twitter is (and it used to be much more with the 140-character limit) to get as much information as possible among the people with as little effort as possible. The “Entry List Updates” account (@EntryLists) shows how it's done. There it is simply announced who has pulled out of a tournament. and who is coming up.

And so the followers read on Tuesday: "Marseille Update: OUT: Monfils". That doesn't come as a complete surprise, the Frenchman has been plagued by an injury for a long time, the return to the ATP tour is dragging on, and Monfils also became a father last year. Gael Monfils' last match? That happened in the round of 16 in Montreal last summer when he had to retire against Jack Draper.

Bresnik near Monfils in Geneva

So ask Monfils coach Günter Bresnik. "Gael has been training again for a few weeks," Bresnik told tennisnet. “I was also in Geneva. Gael is basically playing well. However, due to the severity of the injury, I agreed with him that he should play two tough matches within three days of training. With good players. Then he should decide whether he is ready again.”

That hasn't happened yet, even though Monfils has delivered a few strong training sessions with Stan Wawrinka. So it won't be Marseille, which Günter Bresnik thinks was the right decision. But there is good news for the fans of the now 36-year-old: "Gael is already dying to play again."
