Musetti: "I hope to become the best player."
Lorenzo Musetti wants to become the best Italian player in 2023 after his breakthrough season this year.

The young Italian climbed the world rankings this year from 59th to 23rd place. The former junior world number one beat Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the ATP Tour 500 tournament in Hamburg at the age of 20, winning his first title on the ATP Tour. It was the youngest final on the ATP Tour since the 2005 final in Cincinnati when Rafael Nadal defeated Tomas Berdych. Musetti also emerged victorious from the tournament in Naples. He also won the Supertennis Award for the best Italian player of the 2022 season.
About his goals and Italian colleagues
Musetti said in an interview with the Italian sports newspaper "La Gazzetta dello Sport": "I finished a fantastic season. I achieved all the goals I set myself before the season. The results have exceeded my expectations. I'm the third best Italian player in the ranking. My goal is to get even better. [...] That would mean getting great results because Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini are two top players and will return to the top 10. We are not rivals and have great respect for one another. We're a great team when we play for the national team in Davis Cup.
planning for the next season
Referring to the Davis Cup and the Italian team, he said: "I will plan next season more carefully and take a few weeks off to recover and prepare for the top tournaments. [...] The victory in Hamburg was the turning point in my career. I realized that I can compete with the best players in the world on an equal footing. In the first half of the season I will only have a few points to defend and I will try to take advantage of this situation.” We are excited to see what 2023 has in store for the ambitious Italian.
