Massu ended his career at the age of 33, but did not turn his back on the tennis circuit. "Tennis is the best thing I've been able to do since a young age," says Massu at Behind The Racquet. "I've always known that I wanted to be a coach and Davis Cup captain. As a boy, I wanted to be the best player in the world. Today I want to be the best coach in the world."

The 41-year-old still has a lot to learn. We have been working with Thiem for two years now, and the team has made "incredible progress in a very short time," says Massu. The title at the US Open, the finals at the ATP Finals, Roland Garros and the Australian Open stand for themselves.

"I am very motivated and focused. I like the idea of working with a top man," says Massu. "Dominic has the strength, the talent and the punches." The relationship off the pitch is good, the family is great support. "We're trying to make everything easier for him." Today everything revolves around his player, says Massu.

"The most important thing is to be happy and enjoy the game," said Massu. "Dominic enjoys the way he plays. I've always believed in him. A lot of people think he'll achieve some incredible things. We're working on it."

Massu is currently unable to work with Thiem because he missed the flight to the Australian Open due to a positive corona test result before leaving Miami. Thiem will contest his round of 16 against Grigor Dimitrov on Sunday.
