Over 40 world rankings: Roger Federer is miles ahead

Roger Federer has finally cracked 40, but in contrast to almost everyone else, he still calls himself a professional tennis player. And is by far the best of the 40 plus generation.

Roger Federer may have recently slipped a bit in the ATP ranking, which is open up and down in terms of age, but officially he is only number 9 in the world rankings. And wherever you look, there are youngsters around him: Novak Djokovic with a ridiculous 34 years in first place, Rafael Nadal with 35 year olds just behind in fourth place, plus there are truly ridiculous young actors like Daniil Medvedev (25 years), Stefanos Tsitsipas (22 years old) or, completely absurd, Jannik Sinner (19 years old!). /

But what does the 40 plus generation actually do, to whom Federer has been able to count himself since yesterday? This is an absolute scarce commodity in current men's tennis. Only five players older than 40 are represented in the ATP ranking. And of course the best is called: Roger Federer.

Who are the top 5 of the men's 40s?

Federer is the clear number 1 of the men over 40 tennis professionals, followed by the immortal Ivo Karlovic (42 years old) in second place, in the official ATP ranking the service artist, who is now actually thinking about the end of his career, is in 211th place listed.

Federer and Karlovic are actually the only two over 40 players among the top 500. Jaroslav Pospisil (ATP No. 730), who is also 40 years old, follows on position 3 in our ranking. Before Toshihide Matsui (ATP No. 940) with 43 years and Stephane Robert (ATP No. 978) with 41 years.

However, two actors are about to get involved: Feliciano Lopez, currently number 99 in the ATP ranking, will celebrate his 40th birthday on September 20, and Paolo Lorenzi (ATP No. 189) will join Federer on December 15 , Karlovic and Co.

It seems clear: if Roger Federer wants to, he will lead the over 40 world rankings for a long time - should the knee play along. That has caused the maestro trouble again and led to the cancellations of the tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati . Whether Federer will serve at the US Open is currently still in the stars.
