The corona virus is still causing problems for tennis: After Rafael Nadal, Andrey Rublev, Denis Shapovalov, Belinda Bencic and Ons Jabeur announced infections with COVID-19 the week before, Benoit Paire, Aslan Karatsev and Evgeny Donskoy have now been hit .
Paire in particular was frustrated with his infection. "Hello, my name is Benoit Paire and I have tested positive for COVID for the 250th time," the Frenchman wrote on Instagram. He has had enough of Corona and "all the quarantines," said the 32-year-old. Paire had already tested positive in 2020 in the run-up to the US Open and the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg.
With Aslan Karatsev and Evgeny Donskoy, the corona virus after Rublev also struck two other Russian players. Both had positive results before they left for Sydney. Thus, the Russian team at the ATP Cup consists only of Daniil Medvedev, Roman Safiullin and Evgeny Karlovskiy.
The Russians face Australia, Italy and France in Group B. Because as was officially announced on Wednesday, the French are replacing the Austrian team. After the cancellations by Dominic Thiem and Dennis Novak, the team lost its right to participate in the team competition.
