Reilly Opelka - Hip surgery and the hatred of convention

Haven't heard from Reilly Opelka for a long time? No wonder: the US service giant had to undergo hip surgery. And will be canceled indefinitely.

Reilly Opelka has many interests besides tennis. Collecting paintings, for example, but also fashion. And so it is not surprising that the American showed himself at the Fashion Week in Paris. Especially since Opelka has not played a match against Nick Kyrgios on the ATP tour since he left the ATP Masters 500 event in Washington. Opelka now announced the reason for his absences in Montreal, Cincinnati and at the US Open in Paris: he had had hip surgery. He did not give any precise information on how long the break that is now pending would be.

But very much about his desire to swim against the tide. "I've come so far that I hate tradition," Opelka is quoted as saying by GQ Magazine. “And obviously tennis is all about tradition. You just have to look at Wimbledon - that's what it is. That's not for me. The more I got excited about fashion and art, the more I started to loathe some things in tennis.

Which means that Reilly Opelka is also in line with Nick Kyrgios (who has no record of a passion for the fine arts). After his appearances at Wimbledon this year, the Australian wore a bright red cap, a fashionable counterpoint that not everyone liked.
