Slowly but surely, Roger Federer's comeback plan is taking shape. At the Laver Cup, the Swiss should probably serve for the last time alongside long-term rival Rafael Nadal, the home tournament in Basel - for which Federer has announced his start - is likely to be the highlight of the 2022 season for the now 40-year-old. Because tennis is currently out of the question for Federer.
"I'm waiting for the doctor's okay. I'm ready to give everything again. I feel like a racehorse that scratches in its box and wants to race. In the summer I hope to be able to get off to a flying start," Federer said to the Caminada -Magazine. "I'm looking forward to coming home in the evening after a hard day's training and being completely exhausted."
Federer the family man
These were the pictures that the Swiss wanted to keep away from the public at the beginning of his career, as he now opened: "I post few pictures of the strenuous training because I was always convinced that it was a matter of course." , according to the former world number one. He swore himself not to want to be completely ruined physically at the end of his career.
For a good reason: "I would like to go skiing with the kids later, play football with my colleagues. That's why I'm doing rehabilitation now - not just for tennis. Also for life after my career," said the 40-year-old. In general, the family is already the center of his life for the Swiss. The factor that is decisive for Federer's personal happiness.
Federer is happy with Nadal
"Now of course everything is based on the family, that they are doing well. I want to find the right balance between my tennis, the needs of the children, Mirka, our friends," said Federer. He is now in the middle of life, with enough energy to tackle private matters, to support the children in their fascination with tennis - yes, the youngsters in the Federer household also like to play tennis, confirmed Papa Roger. "I'm full of energy," emphasizes the 20-time Grand Slam winner.
When it came to Grand Slam victories, the Swiss had to watch idly a few months ago as rival Rafael Nadal passed him with his 21st major triumph at the Australian Open. Federer himself, however, has nothing but respect for this achievement: "It's incredibly inspiring when someone comes back after massive health problems. Rafa and I talk on the phone from time to time, we talk a lot. I knew that he wasn't doing great when he If he managed to do it anyway, I was really happy for him."
