Two tournament starts are currently planned: in Madrid (from May 5th) and Roland Garros (from May 26th).
During this week, the first photos and videos of Federer appeared on the sand during training.
"It was my first clay court training of the season. It was great fun," said Federer, who also posted photos of his team around Severin Lüthi and Ivan Ljubicic online. And: Photos of his red socks.
A short video of Federer auf Sand also made the rounds on social media.
Djokovic and Bresnik expect Federer
How Federer will hit the sand in 2019 is one of the big questions of the season. In any case, its competitors have no concerns. "He may have a better chance of winning other Grand Slams than Roland Garros," said Novak Djokovic in Monte Carlo. "But he has already won Roland Garros."
Especially since Federer always brings his level. "Apart from the year that he changed his racket and was injured for six months, there have been maybe two times in the past 15 years that I have seen him play ten or twenty percent worse," added Djokovic. "So I always expect, no matter what surface, that he will be one of the favorites."
Günter Bresnik also sees Federer in front on sand. "He is often portrayed as a lawn specialist, but if he also gets back on sand, then he can be reckoned with. His record of victories and defeats is also one of the best on sand Nadal will be stopped, " said the 57-year-old a few days ago .
