"That would be the next natural step for me. I see no reason why he shouldn't make it," said Becker at the opening of his international academy in Hochheim . The jump to the top of the world rankings is also possible for Hamburg in 2022.

"He made the biggest step this year in his consistency," said Becker: "You have a bad day, but consistency is decisive. He made even more progress."

In addition to his triumph in the Tokyo Olympic final and two Masters titles, Zverev also won the ATP Finals in Turin in 2021. "Both successes were unbelievable, even against strong opponents," said Becker, who sees the third in the world rankings the most on hard court and sand: "He feels even more comfortable there than on grass."

Becker on Federer: "I wish him to play tennis again"

Becker believes that the currently injured Swiss Roger Federer (40) will make another comeback. "I would like him to play tennis again. He's an absolute legend of the sport. Of course you want to see him win," he said, adding: "The longer you are away, the harder it is to come back."

In addition, the three-time Wimbledon winner was critical of the corona crisis. "I still wonder why so many people in Germany are not vaccinated, I don't understand," said Becker. You have to see that "we can get out of this crisis together. It hardly gets any worse."
