Simona Halep ends 2022 season early

It was news that got a little lost on Thursday in view of Roger Federer's impending career end: Simona Halep will not return to the tennis court this season after her recent nose operation and will only attack again next year.
The intervention, Halep said on social media, was necessary to improve her respiratory functions. The 30-year-old has struggled with breathing problems over the course of her career, and according to her own statements, they have recently gotten worse.
Halep also underwent plastic surgery, "which I had wanted to do for a long time because I never liked my nose. So I went through with it and solved the functional and the aesthetic part."
Halep will now need around three months to be operational again. In the past, the Romanian had refrained from an operation due to the considerable downtime. However, now is the right time to take a longer break.
